A family of scientists pioneering marine biotechnology at Laboratoire Dielen

Bernard Noël, an engineer in the dairy industry, founded the company in 1978 in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. Laboratoire Dielen is now a key figure in marine biotechnology in France. It may have started out in animal nutrition, but the lab soon expanded its scope to cover human nutrition with the help of research by Michel Lefèvre, a doctor and vet.

Dielen is now co-directed by Antoine Noël, a trained pharmacist who joined his father’s company, and Paul Violette, an engineer and Michel Lefèvre’s grandson.

Sustainability and core values

Like many other companies in the region, the laboratory is committed to its CSR policy. “The work we do here is to promote a simple and natural lifestyle which supports disease prevention in a modern and evolving society,” explains Antoine Noël.

The company’s values and commitment come through in both its products (marine food supplements made using French ingredients and sustainably-caught fish to protect abiotic resources) and the company’s work itself as it strives to reduce its carbon.

For example, we use the energy we save from the cooling system to heat all our offices and we're updating our fleet to hybrid cars.

Innovation and growth of marine biotechnology at Laboratoire Dielen

As well as local development, Dielen exports its products in France and overseas. The lab works with renowned science centres to continue exploring supplement research to support stress, sleep, exhaustion, joints, digestion, skin, tissue, immune system, cardiovascular system, pregnancy, breastfeeding and more. What doesn’t change is making products using natural active ingredients from the sea and scientific findings.

We grew from 5 to 27 employees and we plan to hire a dozen more people by the end of 2024.

The Norman laboratory also stands out from the crowd in the food supplements industry with patents and clinical trials.
