3 universities, post-bac to PHD courses, 250 Master’s degrees, 4 IUTs (technology institutes) and eight connected campuses mean you can study wherever you are!


Law, healthcare, science, business, management, languages, architecture, fine arts, IT, marketing, logistics, technology and tourism are just a taster of the subjects you can train in.

University isn’t the only place you can study. From training centres (CFA) and technology institutes (IUT) to schools and live-in colleges; there are academic establishments all over the land.

  • The Caen faculty is the oldest university in France and was founded in 1432. 33,000 students attend its UFR (research and training centre) in the city and campuses in Alençon, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Lisieux, Saint-Lô and Vire.
  • Rouen and its 27,000 students are a power house! “Univ Rouen” provides over 300 courses at its 7 campuses including the impressive Evreux and Le Madrillet sites.
  • Université du Havre covers three sites and international mobility takes pride of place. Over 8000 young adults have crossed the borders at the university!

Grandes écoles: engineering to political science

When it comes to France’s famous higher education institutes, the region is a hotspot for grandes écoles! It’s home to 11 engineering grandes écoles, three business schools, two ESAM sites (management and finance), an art school, two science colleges, design and architecture schools plus new campuses that opened in September 2023.

Specific and unique courses

Normandy also plays host to very specific courses and colleges that tie into its signature industries of excellence. You could be a merchant navy officer, osteopath or skipper. You can even train in the plastics, cider or energy trades.

Apprenticeships and work experience in the region

Find your apprenticeship

It’s not unusual to look for an apprenticeship to experience your future career as part of your course. The Agency for Orientation and Professions has set up its own Destination Métier platform. You can search for an apprenticeship anywhere in the region and apply online. It also provides fascinating information with career information to help you find your calling and join the workplace.

Studying abroad

Whether you’re from Normandy and want to study abroad or you’re an international student planning to study in Normandy, you’ll get a helping hand from our region! The “Bienvenue en France“ label helps students find their way and plan their studies in Normandy.
