A new collaborative material and seismic testing platform opened in September 2018 on the Normand’Innov campus in Caligny, near Flers in Orne.

The unit joins the cutting-edge equipment at the Dynamic Test Centre (CED – Centre d’Essais Dynamiques) and strengthens its international reputation.

The testing centre has been working on projects like the resistance of structures for automotive, aerospace and defence manufacturers.

The centre is managed by the CCI Ouest Normandie (public service delegation) and funded by the Normandy Region, Orne Council and Flers Council. It’s the only independent lab in the world accredited to approve aircraft and helicopter seats.

The platform has a crash test lab with the latest and most powerful catapult in Europe. It also has two 6-axis vibration testing benches to test the strength of equipment during long-distance simulations in terms of climate and acoustics (noise interference).

The CED treated its platform to a new testing bench for very heavy loads (up to 2 tons compared to 1 ton for the others) to expand its vibration testing in 2018. It can also fulfil “earthquake resistance” requirements.

The new platform has a leading material analysis lab (observation, mechanical analysis, chemistry, tribology or the science of friction and heat treating). The new equipment has made the CED one of the best testing centres in Europe.
