Henri Thomas hails from Valognes in the Manche area. He now lives in Vietnam and has been an ambassador for Normandy for a few months.
I'd like to strengthen the bonds between Normans living in Vietnam.
Let me introduce myself…
My name is Henri Thomas, I’m 32 and come from Valognes in the Manche. I’ve been living in Vietnam for almost 7 years after spending 3 and a half years in Thailand. I’m married to my Thai partner and we have two children: Félix and Éléonore. I work in the import and food distribution industry for hotels, restaurants and supermarkets in Vietnam.
Me and Normandy
I have a real love for my region, its culture, landscapes, food and drink. Normandy is full of history, despite me living abroad for almost a decade. I love going home as often as I can and introducing Normandy to my family.
Henri Thomas’ Role as a Normandy Ambassador in Vietnam
I’m a relatively new ambassador, I’ve been doing it for a few months now. I’d like to strengthen the bonds between Normans living in Vietnam and put on a few events when we have time. The first I’m involved in is World Calvados Day on October 20th. I hope it will be a success and (re)introduce Calvados to Normans in Vietnam and friends of Normandy.
My World Calvados Day
I’m hosting World Calvados Day in Ho Chi Minh City at a French restaurant called Le Chalet. I’m friends with the managers. A group of 10-15 Normans and friends of Normandy will get together over one (or maybe two) bottles of Calvados served with French and Norman canapés.
Why it matters
It matters to me because, aside from the D-Day Landings and World War II, people don’t know much about Normandy. Most people have heard of our produce but don’t realise that it comes from our region: camembert, calvados, cider etc. I’d like to highlight that at my first event.
