Carentan/Saint-Côme-du-Mont; the key of the landing as soon as the beaches are secured. 6,500 German parachutists strengthened by a division of SS armor try there to repel 10,000 American paratroopers dropped north of Carentan.

At stake, linking the Omaha and Utah beaches, success of the Landing. The clash lasting 6 days, ends in a bayonet charge, the only one in the United States Army European Theater history. Losses on both sides are tremendous, 4,000 on the American, over 5,000 on the other.
