Opening of the Musée de Giverny (formerly the American Art Museum)

In spring 2009, the American Art Museum in Giverny will be replaced by the Musée de Giverny. This new museum will focus on highlighting the international nature of the Impressionist movement and, in particular, the communities of Giverny and the Seine Valley. The museum will open its doors in 2009 with an exhibition on the Garden of Claude Monet
(see exhibitions section below).

Opening of the new buildings at La Maison du Parc in the Parc Natural Régional des
Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin

La Maison du Parc visitor centre in the Manche regional park has been extended and will be reopening with: a new welcome area, a new boutique and a new function area. The extensions were completed following strict environmental standards, using traditional materials (wood, clay, reeds) and modern techniques. The Maison provides information on all aspects of the regional park including the flora and fauna to be found as well as events taking place, museums, local artisans, walks, accommodation and restaurants in the park. Guided bird-watching trips to the observatories in the bird reserve are also available, on foot or by boat.

New video-guide in English for Sainte-Mère-Eglise and Utah Beach

The video-guide will give visitors the opportunity to see photos, maps and diagrams at every point of interest during their visit.

 

New ‘Swing' at AJ Hackett
La Soulevre Viaduct

Take to the skies at 120km per hour in this new harnessed, pendulum swing across the viaduct which opened mid-2008 at the AJ Hackett outdoor activity centre.

The tower on Tatihou island, along with its twin La Hougue, has been classified a NESCO world heritage site
Begun in 1694 in the Normandy district of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue and following the blueprints of engineer De Combes, Vauban recorded the completion of the tower in 1699. 21m high and 20m in diameter at its base, the tower includes a gunpowder store, sleeping quarters for 80 men and a platform for 10 canons. The tower is surrounded by a fortified farm including barracks and a chapel.
