Le Parc is a quiet family run Bed & Breakfast, situated in acres of woodland, 5 minutes away from Cherbourg town centre. There are wonderful walks within the Parc, ideal for BBQ's. Situated in Le Parc's grounds is a fast flowing stream suitable for fishing. Le Parc welcomes everybody, animals too! Le Parc is also home to two goats and our friendly dog- Fleur! Cherbourg’s harbour walls are magnificent feats of engineering, constructed over the 18th and 19th centuries with modifications and additions until 1922. Louis XIV visited Cherbourg before the French Revolution... the costs of this harbour were part of his downfall! This harbour is recognised as one of the deepest in the world - the Titantic sailed from here on her maiden voyage. QM 2 was here just recently along with the Tall Ship Race,The central dyke with its three forts is the main attraction. Also around the harbour area is the site of the great château which was destroyed in 1689.
Other sights include the Bassins, where you can witness the port as it was in the 19th century, the Queens of the Atlantic - ocean liners that ferried emigrants to the Americas,Voeu Abbey, and Emmanuel Liais Park. There are several sign-posted historic walks through the harbour area as well. Historic churches in Cherbourg include: Notre-Dame du Voeu, Saint Clement, and the ancient Saint Trinity Basilica. The 16th century Ravelet-Tourlaville Castle and surrounding landscaped park are also worth seeing.Cherbourg has beautiful sandy beaches, ideal for sunbathing and swimming, lovely lanes for shopping and some really excellent restaurants - what a way to finish off your holiday!
