Delightful Bed & Breakfast accommodation in our luxurious double room or twin room in the main house, or you may stay in our self-catering Gites. Our Gites are decorated to the same high standards as our Chambres d'hôte rooms in the main house and also include toiletries, towels, beach towels, bathrobes and hairdryers. We provide a ‘welcome basket', of essential foodstuffs with which to begin your holiday, this will include for example, bread, croissants, tea, coffee, milk, sugar, butter, jam, cereal, eggs, mineral water. We also provide bin bags, washing-up liquid and toilet rolls, these are to last for a couple of days, as the Gites are self-catering you’ll be responsible for providing these items for the rest of your stay. Each Gite is fully equipped for all of your needs, and as with the B&B accommodation, there is heating available for cooler weather. Towels and bed linen are included in the overall price as is the heating. History of Ivy House At Ivy House we are within easy reach of the many historic sites and places of interest that can be found in the Manche. For those that are interested in the history of the Second World War, St Mere Eglise, with its famous church, a symbol of liberation - which preserves the memory of American Parachutist John Steele who landed on the bell-tower – and its Airborne Museum, is a short distance away. Plus, the additional landing beaches of June 1944, the military cemeteries, monuments/places of remembrance and the many museums, are all accessible within reasonable driving distance. Our own Gites – formerly the stables - were partially re-built in the 1950’s after suffering damage in the Naval bombardment of June 6th 1944. The house, (together with the neighbouring farm) was utilised by German soldiers of 3rd Company 919 Grenadier Regt, when it provided accommodation for the troops - who were manning the bunkers of the ‘Atlantic Wall’. The hapless French civilians were prohibited from moving within 1500 metres of the beach in 1944, as the Germans were preparing defences and minefields against the expected invasion. •Situated 500 metres directly behind Utah Beach •D-Day Location •Short walk to the beach •Ideal for Families •Well located, only 35 minutes drive from the Port of Cherbourg •Restaurants, Bars and Cafes close by •Non-smoking sleeps 16 with 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
